Airport Sigiriya via Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage Leave the office and set off to explore the remains of the ancient civilizations and Cultural Heritage of Sri Lanka. En route, break the journey at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage the world’s biggest herd of domestic elephants about 90 in all ages including baby elephants and this is a very exciting site for tourists. This has been existing since 1975 and primarily designed to afford protection to the many baby elephants found in the jungle without their mothers. You can see the bottle feeding for baby elephants and elephant bath in the “Maa oya” river After that you will proceed to Sigiriya, the eight world heritage site of Sri Lanka an ancient rock fortress which is surrounded by remains of an extensive network of gardens, reservoirs and other structures. This is a very popular tourist destination where you can see beautiful paintings (frescos), The Mirror Wall, The garden and water works, Lion Mouth and Top of the rock with ruins of the palace. Sigiriya Anuradapura Sigiriya After breakfast you will proceed to Anuradapura which is also a UNESCO world Heritage site, the First Kingdom of Sri Lanka under the king Pandukabaya in 377BC. You will visit many heritage sites in Anuradapaya and out of those following sites are very important. Eight Great Places called Atamasthana. Sri Maha Bodhiya (Sacred Boo Tree)- with an authenticated history of more than 2300 years which has been planted from a sapling from the original tree under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. Ruwanwelisaya- the largest stupa in the island, Jetawanaramaya and Abayagiriya- which are their original form had been equivalent in size to the Great Pyramids in Giza, Thuparamaya â€“ the first stupa built in Sri Lanka, Samadhi Statue â€“ meditating posture of Lord Buddha made out of granite, Isurumuniya â€“ the first Buddhist temple. Lovamahapaya- Originally 9 storied building, Kuttam Pokuna and the Museum. After the site seen head back to Sigiriya. In the evening undertake an Elephant Back Safari in to the dry zone jungles, crossing a water ways. Stay overnight at Sigiriya.
Sigiriya Polonnaruwa Minneriya National Park Sigiriya After breakfast leave for Polonnaruwa, which is a UNESCO world heritage site and the second capital city of Sri Lanka under the King Vijayabahu-1 in 1070. But the real “Hero of Polonnaruwa” of the history books is actually his grandson, “Parakramabahu I”. The greatest irrigation system is the Parakrama Samudraya (reservoir) where it is impossible to stand upon one shore and view the other side. You will visit many sites of archaeological and historical interest in the sacred city of Polonnaruwa including the Royal Palace, Vatdage, Siva Devalaya, Gal Viharaya, Kumara and Lotus Ponds, Thuparamaya, Rankoth Vehera, Pabalu Vehera, Thiwanka Image House, The Museam, Statue of King Parakramabahu and Ruins at Polonnaruwa which are living evidences to a proud heritage of the country. After site seen pop in to Wood Carving Factory to see the skills of Sri Lankan craftsmen. To make a change of scenery, engage in an adventurous safari ride in the Minneriya National Park where you can see elephants, leopards, Samba deer, different kind of Monkeys and other wild animals. Minneriya Reservoir inside the park creates picturesque seen and adds colour to the park and it is important habitat for large water birds, other birds and amphibious animals. At the end of safari will go back to hotel and stay overnight at Sigiriya.
Sigiriya Dambulla Matale Kandy After breakfast leave for Kandy the capital of hill country and the last Kingdom of Sri Lanka. En route break the journey and visit Dambulla and Matale Aluvihare Temples. At Dambulla you will climb Rock Cave Temple and Golden Temple which have collection of five caves of different sizes of paintings, sculptures, statues of Lord Buddha, Kings, and Gods. This is considered to be the largest painted caves in the world and declared as a UNESCO world heritage site. After that you will leave for Matale Alu Viharaya Temple which is the historic location where the Pali Canon was first written down completely in text on ola (palm) leaves. Numerous monastery caves are situated near Aluviharaya, some of which exhibit fine frescoes. En route break the journey to visit Matale Spice Garden and then proceed to Kandy. Stay overnight at Kandy.
Kandy Royal Botanical Garden- Peradeniya After breakfast you will do the Kandy City Tour and Visit Dalada Maligawa Temple of Tooth Relic, Museum, Kandy Lake, and Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya which is the largest Botanical Garden where you will experience exciting landscape and more than 5000 species of flora. After that visit Gem Museum and do some shopping before you watch evening Cultural and Traditional Dance performance which impresses everyone. At the end of dance performance you will return back to hotel while watching the evening beauty of Kandy city. Stay overnight at Kandy. Kandy Nuwara Eliya After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya, famous as “Little England” through the Ramboda pass surrounded by “Green Carpets”- hill covered with tea plantation and beautiful waterfalls. En route visit a Tea Factory and Tea Plantation to witness the manufacturing process of world famous “Ceylon Tea” and to taste a pure cup of factory fresh tea. Break the journey and visit “Hanuman Temple” on the way to Nuwara Eliya. In the evening free walk/tour around the city and visit Victoria Park , Gregory Lake, Golf Course and Market etc. Nature lovers could make a visit the Lovers Leap Water Falls just outside the city which will involve a little bit of hiking for 1 hour both ways. Stay overnight in Nuwara Eliya.
Nuwara Eliya Horton Plain Hakgala Gardens After early breakfast proceeds to Horton Plains National Park and Worlds End are a beautiful, silent, strange world with some excellent hikes in the shadow of Sri Lanka’ss second and third highest mountains. This is the only national park situated in the hill country 200 km away from Colombo where visitors can walk on their own. Panoramic scenic beauty of hill country could be witnessed with in the park. The walk to the famous World’s End is 4 km, but trial loop back to Bakers Falls 2 km and continues back to entrance 3.5 km. The round trip is 9.5 km and takes leisurely three hours. This would be a very exciting and wonderful time for you. On the way back visit Hakgala Botanical Gardens where you can see beautiful flowers and different types of flora with magnificent landscaping. Stay overnight at Nuwara Eliya.
Nuwara Eliya Katharagama Tissamaharama After breakfast proceeds to Kataragama, a pilgrimage town sacred to Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and indigenous Vedda people of Sri Lanka. People from South India also come there to worship. The town has Ruhunu Maha Kataragama devalaya, a shrine dedicated to Skanda-Murukan also known as Kataragama devio. This is situated 228km South East of Colombo. After that you will proceed to Tissamaharama where you visit ancient dagabas, temples and Tissa tank. Stay overnight at Tissa.
Tissamaharama Yala After breakfast proceed to Yala National Park and undertake jeep safari to enjoy the wild life. You will see vast range of animals including deer, peacocks, elephants, wild buffalos, wild boars, leopards, bears and other wild animals. At the end of the safari tour you will proceed back to Tissamaharama and stay overnight at Tissa.
Tissamaharama Sinharaja Forest Reserve After breakfast leave for Sinharaja Forest Reserve which is the country’s last viable area of primary tropical rainforest. This is the seventh UNESCO World Heritage Site of the island which is a national park and a biodiversity hotspot in Sri Lanka. Stay overnight at a hotel near Sinharaja.
Sinharaja Mirissa After breakfast leaves for Mirissa a beautiful beach town where you could do Whale watching which one of the most exciting sights is and then relax on the beach in the evening. Stay overnight at Mirissa.
Mirissa Galle Unawatuna After Breakfast proceed to Galle and do site seen and visit Dutch Fort. Galle is the best example of a fortified city built by Europeans in south and Southeast Asia, showing the interaction between European architectural styles and south Asian traditions. The Galle fort is a world heritage site and the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European occupiers. Other prominent landmarks in Galle include the natural harbour, National Maritime Museum, St. Mary’s Cathedral founded by Jesuit priests. In the evening relax at Unwatuna Beach and stay overnight at Unawatuna
Unawatuna Hikkaduwa Colombo After breakfast leave for Colombo and break the journey at Hikkaduwa where you can visit Hikkaduwa National Maritime Park, Coral Gardens and beautiful beaches. After that continue to Colombo the Capital and the largest city of Sri Lanka and stay overnight in Colombo
Colombo City Tour Airport After breakfast you will do Colombo City Tour and Shopping. While on city tour you will visit Gangarama Temple, Seema Malakaya, Hindu Kovils, Bandaranayike Memorial International Conference Hall, Independence Memorial Hall, National Museum, Viharamadevi Park, Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksha Theatre.
