Airport Sigiriya via Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage Leave the office and set off to explore the remains of the ancient civilizations and Cultural Heritage of Sri Lanka. En route, break the journey at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage the world’s biggest herd of domestic elephants about 90 in all ages including baby elephants and this is a very exciting site for tourists. This has been existing since 1975 and primarily designed to afford protection to the many baby elephants found in the jungle without their mothers. You can see the bottle feeding for baby elephants and elephant bath in the “Maa oya” river After that you will proceed to Sigiriya, the eight world heritage site of Sri Lanka an ancient rock fortress which is surrounded by remains of an extensive network of gardens, reservoirs and other structures. This is a very popular tourist destination where you can see beautiful paintings (frescos), The Mirror Wall, The garden and water works, Lion Mouth and Top of the rock with ruins of the palace. Sigiriya Anuradapura After breakfast you will proceed to Anuradapura which is a UNESCO world Heritage site, the First Kingdom of Sri Lanka under the king Pandukabaya in 377BC. You will visit many heritage sites in Anuradapaya and out of those following sites are very important. Eight Great Places of Veneration in Anuradhapura called Atamasthana. Sri Maha Bodhiya (Sacred Boo Tree)- with an authenticated history of more than 2300 years which has been planted from a sapling from the original tree under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment, Ruwanwelisaya- the largest stupa in the island, Jetawanaramaya and Abayagiriya- which were their original form had been equivalent in size to the Great Pyramids in Giza, Thuparamaya as the first stupa built in Sri Lanka, Samadhi Statue as meditating posture of Lord Buddha made out of granite, Isurumuniya as the first Buddhist temple. Lovamahapaya- Originally 9 storied building, Kuttam Pokuna and Museum. After that you will head towards Polonnaruwa another cultural and heritage city.
Anuradapura Polonnaruwa After lunch you will visit Polonnaruwa, which is a UNESCO world heritage site, the second capital city of Sri Lanka under the King Vijayabahu-1 in 1070. But the real “Hero of Polonnaruwa” of the history books is actually his grandson, “Parakramabahu I”. The greatest irrigation system is the Parakrama Samudraya (reservoir) where it is impossible to stand upon one shore and view the other side. You will visit many sites of archaeological and historical interest in the sacred city of Polonnaruwa including the Royal Palace, Vatdage, Siva Devalaya, Gal Viharaya, Kumara and Lotus Ponds, Thuparamaya, Rankoth Vehera, Pabalu Vehera, Thiwanka Image House, The Museum, Statue of King Parakramabahu and Ruins at Polonnaruwa which are adding a proud heritage to the country. Pop in to wood Carving Factory to see the skills of Sri Lankan craftsmen. In the evening undertake an Elephant Back Safari in to the dry zone jungles, crossing a water ways. Sigiriya Dambulla Matale Kandy After breakfast you will start your excursion towards Kandy Via Dambulla and Matale . At Dambulla you will climb Rock Cave Temple and Golden Temple which have collection of five caves of different sizes of paintings, sculptures, statues of Lord Buddha, Kings, and Gods. This is considered to be the largest painted caves in the world and declared as a world heritage site. After that you will proceed to Kandy via Matale Alu Viharaya Temple which is the historic location where the Pali Canon was first written down completely in text on ola (palm) leaves. Numerous monastery caves are situated near Aluviharaya, some of which exhibit fine frescoes. Break the journey to visit Matale Spice Garden and then proceed to Kandy. Kandy City Tour Royal Botanical Garden After the breakfast you will do the Kandy City Tour and visit Dalada Maligawa Temple of Tooth Relic, Museum, Lake, and Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya which is the largest Botanical Garden where you will experience exciting landscape and so many varieties of plants and flowers. Kandy Nuwara Eliya After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya famous as “Little England” through the Ramboda pass surrounded by “Green Carpets”- hill covered with tea and beautiful waterfalls .En route visit a Tea Factory and Tea Plantation to witness the manufacturing process of world famous “Ceylon Tea” and to taste a pure cup of factory fresh tea. Break the journey and visit “Hanuman Temple” on the way to Nuwara Eliya. In the evening free walk/tour around the city and visit Victoria Park , Gregory Lake, Golf Course and Market etc. Nature lovers could make a visit the Lovers Leap Water Falls just outside the city which will involve a little bit of hiking for 1 hour both ways. Nuwara Eliya Horton Plains Hakgala Gardens Nuwara Eliya After early breakfast proceeds to Horton Plains National Park and Worlds End are a beautiful, silent, strange world with some excellent hikes in the shadow of Sri Lanka’s second and third highest mountains. This is the only national park situated in the hill country 200 km away from Colombo where visitors can walk on their own. Panoramic scenic beauty of hill country could be witnessed with in the park. The walk to the famous World’s End is 4 km, but trial loop back to Bakers Falls 2 km and continues back to entrance 3.5 km. The round trip is 9.5 km and takes leisurely three hours. This would be a very exciting and wonderful time for you. Nuwara Eliya Katharagama Tissamaharama After breakfast leave for Kataragama which is a pilgrimage town sacred to Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and indigenous Vedda people of Sri Lanka. People from South India also come there to worship. The town has Ruhunu Maha Kataragama devalaya, a shrine dedicated to Skanda-Murukan also known as Kataragama devio. This is situated 228km South East of Colombo. After that you will proceed to Tissamaharama where you visit ancient dagabas, temple and Tissa tank. Stay overnight at Tissa.
Tissamaharama Yala Tissamaharama After the breakfast proceed to Yala National Park and undertake a jeep safari to enjoy wild life. You will see vast range of animals including deer, peacocks, elephants, wild buffalos, wild boar, leopards, bears and other wild animals. It has been well known for its highest leopard concentration. At the end of the safari you will proceed back to Tissamaharama. Stay overnight at Tissa.
Tissamaharama Galle Hikkaduwa After the Breakfast proceed to Galle and do site seen and visit Dutch Fort. Galle is the best example of a fortified city built by Europeans in south and Southeast Asia, showing the interaction between European architectural styles and south Asian traditions. The Galle fort is a world heritage site and the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European occupiers. Other prominent landmarks in Galle include the natural harbour, the National Maritime Museum, St. Mary’s Cathedral founded by Jesuit priests, one of the main Shiva temples in the island etc. After that you will proceed to Hikkaduwa where you can visit Hikkaduwa National Maritime Park, Coral Gardens and beautiful beaches. Hikkaduwa Colombo Airport After breakfast you will proceed to Colombo the biggest city in Sri Lanka and will do the Colombo City Tour and Shopping. While on city tour you will visit Gangarama Temple, Seema Malakaya, Hindu Kovils, Bandaranayike Memorial International Conference Hall, Independence Memorial Hall, National Museum, Viharamadevi Park, Nelum Pokun Mahinda Rajapaksha Theatre.
