Airport Anuradapura Leave the office and set off to explore the remains of the ancient civilizations and Cultural Heritage of Sri Lanka Anuradapura which is a UNESCO world Heritage site and the First Kingdom of Sri Lanka under the king Pandukabaya in 377BC. You will visit many heritage sites in Anuradapaya and out of those following sites are very important. Eight Great Places of Veneration in Anuradhapura called as Atamasthana. Sri Maha Bodhiya (Sacred Boo Tree)- with an authenticated history of more than 2300 years which has been planted from a sapling from the original tree under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment, Ruwanwelisaya- the largest stupa in the island, Jethawanaramaya and Abayagiriya- which were their original form had been equivalent in size to the Great Pyramids in Giza, Thuparamaya â€“ the first stupa built in Sri Lanka, Samadhi Statue as meditating posture of Lord Buddha made out of granite, Isurumuniya â€“ the first Buddhist temple. Anuradapura Polonnaruwa After breakfast you will proceed to Polonnaruwa, which is a UNESCO world heritage site, the second capital city of Sri Lanka under the King Vijayabahu-1 in 1070. But the real “Hero of Polonnaruwa” of the history books is actually his grandson, “Parakramabahu I”. The greatest irrigation system is the Parakrama Samudraya (reservoir) where it is impossible to stand upon one shore and view the other side. You will visit many sites of archaeological and historical interest in the sacred city of Polonnaruwa including the Royal Palace, Vatdage, Siva Devalaya, Gal Viharaya, Kumara and Lotus Ponds, Thuparamaya, Rankoth Vehera, Pabalu Vehera, Thiwanka Image House, The Museum, Statue of King Parakramabahu and remaining Ruins at Polonnaruwa which are adding a proud heritage to the country. Polonnaruwa Sigiriya In the afternoon proceed to Sigiriya, the eighth world heritage site of Sri Lanka an ancient rock fortress which is surrounded by remains of an extensive network of gardens, reservoirs and other structures. This is a very popular tourist destination not a single person will miss it, where you can see beautiful paintings (frescos), The Mirror Wall, The garden and water works, Lion Mouth and Top of the rock with the ruins of the palace. In the evening undertake an Elephant Back Safari in to the dry zone jungles, crossing a water way. Stay overnight at Sigiriya.
Sigiriya Kandy via Dambulla and Matale After breakfast you will start your excursion towards Kandy Via Dambulla and Matale. At Dambulla you will climb Rock Cave Temple and Golden Temple which have collection of five caves of different sizes of paintings, sculptures, statues of Lord Buddha, Kings, and Gods. This is considered to be the largest painted caves in the world and declared as a world heritage site. After that you will proceed to Kandy via Matale Alu Viharaya Temple which is the historic location where the Pali Canon was first written down completely in text on ola (palm) leaves. Numerous monastery caves are situated near Aluviharaya, some of which exhibit fine frescoes. After having seen this temple visit Matale Spice Garden and then proceed to Kandy. Kandy Colombo via Botanical Garden After the breakfast proceed to Colombo via Royal Botanical Garden -Peradeniya which is the largest Botanical Garden where you will experience exciting landscape and so many varieties of plants and flowers. En route break journey at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage the world’s biggest herd of domestic elephants about 90 in all ages including baby elephants and this is a very exciting sight for tourists. This has existed since 1975 and is primarily designed to afford protection to the many baby elephants found in the jungle without their mothers. You can see the bottle feeding for baby elephants and elephant bath in the “Maa oya” river. After that you will proceed to Colombo and visit Old parliament at Colombo and New Parliament at Sri Jayawaradanapura and then proceed to hotel. Stay overnight at Colombo.
Colombo city tour Airport After breakfast you will do the Colombo City Tour and Shopping and you will visit Gangarama Temple, Seema Malakaya, Hindu Kovils, Bandaranayike Memorial International Conference Hall, Independence Memorial Hall, National Museum, Viharamadevi Park, Nelum Pokun Mainda Rajapaksha Theatre and finally reach Gall Face Green where you can enjoy the sunset at Colombo and then you will be transferred to airport for departure with full of beautiful memories and experiences in Sri Lanka.
